Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just not yourself lately? Are you struggling to sleep? Perhaps you’re struggling with stress, low mood, or difficulties at work and/or home. Maybe you are struggling with menopausal symptoms. Perhaps you have tried talking therapy in the past and you are now looking for something different.
I offer Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). These approaches are informed by neuroscience and validated by scientific research. Traditional counselling requires you to think your way out of a problem. IFS and EMDR bypass your conscious brain to heal the root cause at the subconscious level. I also offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which is another evidence-based approach helpful for managing a variety of conditions.
Imagine feeling more in control, confident in facing life’s challenges, and be able to enjoy richer relationships and greater peace of mind. My approach means your therapy is tailored to your individual needs, whether you want to overcome your anxiety and/or depression, sleep well, process unresolved trauma, or just improve your overall wellbeing. You deserve to feel better, and with the right support, change is possible.

My name is Joanne, and I am a qualified psychotherapist. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also an accredited professional member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and a registered member of the EMDR Association UK, as well as a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) and qualified PCE-CfD practitioner. My IFS training is accredited with the IFS Institute and Dr Richard Schwartz, and my EMDR training is accredited with EMDR Association UK and EMDR Europe.
I am educated to the postgraduate level. After a career in academia, I worked in an NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT)Centre providing counselling to adults in West London. Consequently I have experience of working with people of various ages and backgrounds. I also have experience of successfully treating a wide range of issues (including anxiety, depression and bereavement), as well as working with neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia etc). I currently run my own private practice, and I work for Health Assured Wisdom Wellbeing and BUPA.

I am an integrative psychotherapist, and therefore I draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches to treat a variety of mental health issues. These include:
These approaches are NHS approved, with evidence to support their efficacy. IFS and EMDR are often used together, as IFS can be helpful in ensuring any protective neural networks are ready to do the EMDR work. I am also a qualified and accredited pet bereavement therapist and I can integrate IFS and/or EMDR into pet-loss grief treatment.
More information on the empirical evidence for IFS and EMDR can be found here.
If you have found talking therapy challenging and/or ineffective, then we can work with IFS and/or EMDR. These can incorporate somatic and creative therapeutic approaches, and work directly with the autonomic nervous system (ANS).
In the first instance, I will suggest a brief no-obligation telephone call where we can explore your hopes and goals for therapy. I can also answer any questions you might have about me and we can work out how we might work together. Once we start, I will suggest regular reviews of our progress. These reviews will use NHS approved mental health audit tools to guide us to a successful outcome.

My blog contains articles that I have written. These offer practical support for a range of psychotherapeutic issues. Please feel free to access these, and to share them if you feel they might be helpful to other people.
